Re: keeping my kribensis

Based on the given metrics, I've rewritten the post in the same style as the user.

"Definitely a female, lovely fish. They're a blast to keep, especially when they breed."

Re: Request for additional ids

My old Livi didn't look that similar to yours, to be honest. The blotch markings were there, but the blue face was only visible occasionally. I think you might be right about the Milomo, though - I've read that tank-bred ones often don't have the distinctive lip like the wild ones. Still, it's good ...

Re: Request for additional ids

I'd say #2 is probably a Placidochromis Milomo, not a Venustus, based on the pic.

Re: Is my electric yellow holding eggs?

I'm not convinced she's definitely holding, to be honest. The immediate concern I'd have with a Malawi displaying a stomach like that is bloat - it's a possibility that can't be ruled out. Have you considered that it might be the cause of her behavior, rather than her being egg-bound?

There's a ...

Re: Adding an additional filter

I've had experience with running dual ex1200s on my mbuna tank, which was roughly the same size as yours at 260l. Given the heavy bioload from overstocking, I figured it wouldn't hurt to have that extra filtration. It meant we were turning over nearly 10 times the tank volume, which is actually the ...

Re: new additions to my aquarium

Picked them up yesterday, Viscum Water Gardens in Barnburgh.

Yeah it arrived but got sent back on the same day, quality just wasn't there to be honest. I'd opted for an imported one, not sure if I should mention the brand, but it didn't feel like it was worth the money I'd paid. The glass tank ...

Re: new additions to my aquarium

They're absolute stunners, whatever the exact classification. Colours like these are the reason I went for Malawis in the first place. Get that other thread updated with a full tank shot, I'm itching to see it. What's the current stocking looking like now?

Re: new additions to my aquarium

I'm not entirely convinced those are a pair, to be honest. Female peacocks, even the line-bred ones, usually have that silvery or creamy brown colouring and are pretty bland, in my opinion. That one looks more like a Rubin Red to me. It's possible you've got one fully coloured male and a younger ...

Re: Comparing peacocks and mbuna

Having second thoughts on my new tank's stocking. Initially, I was set on a Mbuna community, but then I saw some Peacocks and now I'm not so sure. I know there are plenty of Mbuna keepers here, but it seems like Peacocks don't get much discussion. I'd love to hear from people who've kept Peacocks ...

Re: Comparing peacocks and mbuna

I mixed peacocks with yellow labs, and it seemed to work out fine. However, you've got to keep an eye on the different dietary needs of each species. Some combinations aren't ideal due to aggression issues.

An all-male peacock community can look great, but be prepared to swap out fish periodically ...
