new six by two by two
Just put a deposit on a new tank, 6x2x2 Seashell Aquarium, comes with stand, lid and glass sliders. Looking for ideas on a few things - lighting setup, best background options, effective filtration systems and flow configurations.
Re: new six by two by two
Not exactly the most exciting tank, but hey, it's a start. That little kid's adorable, though. On a more serious note, is that internal glass thingy meant for a sump or just some leftover storage from the LFS?
Re: new six by two by two
Congrats on the new tank, looking forward to seeing it all set up.
Re: new six by two by two
Honestly, I'm stumped on background and lighting ideas, but with the tank's length, I'd definitely recommend using at least two 750-1000gph wave-makers, positioned to cross over at a 20-degree angle from the bottom up. This will create a really nice mid-tank break, assuming your rock arrangement allows for it.
Re: new six by two by two
Nice one, how much did you end up paying for that setup? I've got the same size tank, running 2 FX5's for my SA cichlids and it's doing the job just fine. But I can see the benefits of a sump, especially for a tank that size. I'm actually getting a custom LED light unit built for my new 5x2x2 by a member on here, and from what I've seen of their previous work, I'm convinced that LED is the way to go.
Re: new six by two by two
The tank cost me £795, considering running 2x APS 2000EF's for filtration. Unfortunately, it's not drilled for a sump, so that's out of the question. I've been looking at the Arcadia Ultra Seal Single lamp 80W T5 Controller, thinking of getting four to run 5ft tubes independently on timers. Axonix9, would love to see the guy's previous work on the LED's, need a good spectrum for growing algae. And the best part, I get 25% off all equipment I need from the shop, including everything I require for the tank.
Re: new six by two by two
Cracked a deal, didn't you. 25% off equipment, that's top notch. Drilling a hole for a sump isn't rocket science, but I wouldn't risk it on that Seashell Aquarium if you're new to it. What's the plan, what's going in there?
Check out this guy's work on custom LED units, might be worth a look: http/www.fishforums.net/index.php?/topic/398 ... ing-units/

Re: new six by two by two
I'm thinking of stocking Mbuna, haps and peacocks in the Seashell Aquarium. For lighting, I came across the 80w HO T5 Marine Lighting Kit, capable of running two 80w high output T5 5foot tubes. I'd like to run a total of four 5ft HO T5 bulbs - two marine white and two marine blue. Has anyone used these before?axonix9 wrote: ↑Thu Mar 20, 2025 9:32 am Nice one, how much did you end up paying for that setup? The tank is empty, just a standard 6x2x2 with no weir or holes drilled, I think the internal glass you're referring to is just a reflection from the tanks behind. The glass is still covered in a protective shrink wrap. That's my little lad Logan, he's a big fish fan too.

Congrats on the new tank, mate. Can't wait to see the setup, when's the delivery expected and when can we get some pics?
