I'd say the first pic is more like partially open, not fully opened up. Your elegance in the first pic looks more like the way mine stays when the lights are off. I've never seen mine close up as much as yours does in the second pic.

I've had the opposite experience, I've found the branching type to be pretty easy going, and I've heard walls are the ones that can be a challenge.

I've had two different hammers together with no issues. I actually got the idea from a local fish store that had a display with 4-5 hammers on the same rock - it was a real showstopper, they called it their 4th of July piece with a gold hammer as the centerpiece. From my understanding, it's the ...

Branching lps corals
I've got a collection of corals - two hammers, a frogspawn, three candy canes, and a duncan. They all have between 2-5 heads. As they grow and branch out, I'm wondering if the base or trunk of the colony gets larger to support it?

Comparing kryptonite, candy cane, and branching vs ball mass corals
My 3 headed frag is shaping up to be a ball type colony. I'm still curious, what causes some colonies to form into balls while others branch out? I had my heart set on mine branching, but it seems that's not the case.
