Do hammer corals sting other hammer or torch corals?
Re: Do hammer corals sting other hammer or torch corals?
I've had the opposite experience, I've found the branching type to be pretty easy going, and I've heard walls are the ones that can be a challenge.
Re: Do hammer corals sting other hammer or torch corals?
I'd advise against mounting them on a vertical face, as hammers tend to have quite a reach with those tentacles. The lower ones might end up in the shade, which isn't ideal.

I've found that wall hammers tend to be slower growers, whereas branching hammers seem to be more manageable and easier to care for.
Re: Do hammer corals sting other hammer or torch corals?
For my experience, I have to keep hammers and torches separate. They just didn't get along.
I keep Frogspawn really far from my hammers, I'm not entirely sure why, but every time I've placed them near each other, my hammers started growing into more of a Frogspawn shape - less of the typical hammer tip, and more rounded.

It's not necessarily that branching hammers are hardier, but rather, if one head starts to decline, it's easier to remove it, which ultimately saves the rest of the colony. This isn't the case with wall hammers - if they start to struggle, the entire coral is at risk of dying unless you provide it with optimal care. That being said, I do think wall hammers have more vibrant, attractive colors compared to their branching counterparts.

Hammers and Frogs can touch, no issue. Torches though, give 'em space from everything.

Thanks for clearing that up, I was under the wrong impression. It seems to me that the polyps and colors are pretty similar between branching and wall hammers, am I right?
My planned mounting spot should work out, it's at a 45-degree angle, and I think the lighting will be sufficient - my frogspawn is in a similar spot and it's thriving.

Different torches, can they coexist? I'm thinking of a gold and green torch, for example. Would they get along or try to sting each other? Any thoughts on this would be appreciated.
Re: Do hammer corals sting other hammer or torch corals?
From my understanding, Frogspawn and Hammers get along great, no issues. But the rest of the Euphylid family needs their space. They're not too picky about being near their own kind, like multiple torches, but that's about it. Torches, though, are super aggressive - they need to be kept away from everyone else. One thing to remember is those sweeper tentacles can grow long, so even if they look small, they need room to breathe.
As for Walls vs Branching, it's all about fragging off dead heads. Walls have it tough because they're fragile during shipping and can get hurt on their skeletons, leading to infections that look like brown jelly. I learned this the hard way, trying to save my Wall Frogspawn after our urchin bumped it.
