Re: discus tankmates for 55 gallons
Rummy Nose Tetras are another option. They school tight and look dope against the green plants. Mine share a 55 with Discus, zero drama. Just keep up with weekly 30% water changes, they're picky about clean water.

Re: medicating discus without stress
How often are you doing water changes during treatment? I've found smaller, daily changes (10-15%) keep the meds effective but don't shock the fish. My Discus are in a 55 with a sponge filter, and they handle it way better than big weekly changes.

Re: medicating discus without stress
What meds are you using? I've had luck with Seachem Metroplex mixed into their food. Less stress than dosing the whole tank. Just gotta make sure they eat it all.

Re: keeping discus in a community tank
My Discus are in with Rams and Cardinals, no issues. But my tank's a 120-gallon, so more space. How old are your Angelfish? Younger ones adapt better to tankmates. Also, what filter you running? Need strong flow but not too turbulent.

Re: what are the most resilient plants
I've got a low-maintenance approach to plants too, basically ones that are tough to kill.
I've got Anubias, java fern, and amazon swords in my tank and they're doing great. I just trim off the dead leaves every now and then, maybe once a month, and that's about it. They always seem to stay nice ...

I've found this discussion quite enlightening, as I wasn't aware of most of these points beforehand.

Thanks for the offer, Fritz. Your deal seems great, especially with the shipping cost for up to 25. I'm definitely interested in getting some assassins for my tanks.

Re: Color Changing
I've come across this topic before, but never really gave it much thought. I'm not surprised, though - it's not like I've been in the hobby for a long time, and I don't have much experience with Discus. Still, it's something to consider and think about.

Anything 3” and above I would assume be fine. However, when introducing new fish, rearrange the tank to reset any territories etc.
I'm on the same page as you, can't just drop a new discus in and expect harmony.
