Wild Symphysodon aequifasciatus spawn

Post by SeaAqua »

Hey everyone,

I'm sharing this with you all since I know you appreciate quality fish and enjoy some nice 'eye candy' - I've got permission from the breeder, @deansfishroom.

These are Wild Symphysodon aequifasciatus (Red Spot Green Discus) from Rio Nanay - two of about 12 brought back from Peru in mid 2019. This is their second spawn. The first spawn was 2-3 weeks ago in the same tank as the other discus. Unfortunately, it didn't make it past the 'wiggler' stage - it disappeared overnight. If this one reaches the 'wiggler' stage, we'll remove the stone.

Stunning discus, SeaAqua. The colors on those wild Symphysodon aequifasciatus are truly breathtaking. Fingers crossed this spawn makes it to the wiggler stage.

Nice work, Roy. Are these the source of your F1s?

Hi @paddlepop,

This breeder is indeed the one I sourced my F1's from last summer. He's a highly respected figure in our local aquarium club, with an impressive 30-year breeding background.

Always great to see Dean's work featured on the Aquarium Coop's channel - he's just so down-to-earth and easy to like. His tank setup is really something special, the in-tank background and tiles create a beautiful environment for those stunning discus.

Hi @Frosty - I've had the pleasure of meeting Dean in person and I can confidently say he's just as likable as he appears on the Aquarium Coop's channel. He's truly a genuine and down-to-earth guy.

Hi @Jumper - Thanks for the kind words, this is my first foray into keeping discus and I'm trying my best to provide them with a great environment. While I appreciate the newer colors and varieties, I've always had a soft spot for the 'wild' species - there's something about their understated beauty that really resonates with me.

I've also come to appreciate wild species, thanks to the influence of Al and Pat. The Cuipeua has a special place in my heart, but I've always been drawn to the understated beauty of RSG's as well.
