growing and caring for anubias plants
Re: growing and caring for anubias plants
I've also got mostly anubias varieties in my 55 - they're super reliable and sturdy, I've gotta agree with you on that.
Re: growing and caring for anubias plants
I really like anubias plants, they're like a long-term investment - they pay back slowly but surely. They look best in groups, one on its own can get a bit lost unless it's in a small tank. I've noticed some people can get them to grow these huge leaves, while others, like me, get lots of mid-sized Anubias coffeefolia leaves - never the big ones. I think they need bright light, but not so bright that it causes algae issues - it's a fine line. And they bloom too, kinda like Buce, but not the pure white - more greenish, like Calla lilies.
Re: growing and caring for anubias plants
I've been grabbing these small anubias plants in little pots lately, Petco had them for 4.99 USD. I'm a bit concerned though, do you think they'll be okay staying in those little pots for a while?
Re: growing and caring for anubias plants
Not sure about those little pots, Viking. I've never seen Anubias sold that way before. My Petco experience was different - almost two years ago, I bought mine in bags. As epiphytes, the rock wool is okay, but I'm concerned the pot might restrict root aeration. Most plants I've seen lately come in either those slatted plastic pots or gel bags. Those little pots must be new. I recall Petco had them priced lower than online, so I picked up a few - A. barteri, A. fraseri, and A. nana petite. Still have them, but A. fraseri didn't quite live up to my expectations. It never grew well, unlike the others.
