I've tried culturing them before. They're kinda finicky with temperature. If it's too warm, they'll crash fast. Also, don't overfeed the culture, or it'll go sour. A little yeast or fish food works as feed too.

Absolutely. And test your water regularly, especially during the first few weeks. A 5-gallon tank is the bare minimum, but bigger is always better. They need space to swim and explore. Make sure it has a gentle filter, as strong currents can stress them out. Also, a heater to keep the water at 78-80°F is essential.
