Re: Leveling up the aquarium hobby

Have you considered adding more fish species? A small school of Corydoras or some Cherry Shrimp could add more activity to your tank. Just make sure they're compatible with your Tetras.

Re: Increasing light, stems still growing

The asterina I found was white, but I did notice it was wrapped around one of my polyps. Typically, the white ones are considered reef safe, but I've heard there can be exceptions. I did manage to get it off, but I'm still a bit concerned - I'd hate to lose any of my corals to a rogue starfish.

Re: Increasing light, stems still growing

Most of the time when zoas/palys stretch, it's due to low lighting or low flow. Flow's usually the easier issue to identify. If the polyps are fully open, it's often a sign that flow is too low. I'd recommend increasing flow first - you'd be surprised how much they actually need.

Thanks for the ...

Re: keeping mbuna with guppies

I've got too many neptunes and I'm setting up an mbuna tank, so I was thinking of rehoming some that way. I've read they're omnivores, so I figured it was worth asking if they'd eat the baby neptunes and if it'd be safe for the mbuna.

keeping mbuna with guppies

What about the baby neptunes - will the cichlids see them as a snack? And if they do eat them, are there any potential health risks for the cichlids?

Re: Asterina damage: can zoanthus polyps regrow without a parent polyp

I've had Asterina in my tank for years, never seen them eat living tissue, always just cleaning up dead stuff. Hopefully your frag recovers, fingers crossed.

I agree with this sentiment. The likelihood of your Asterina being the primary culprit in devouring your Zoas, rather than merely ...
