Good call. Let us know how it goes. Consistency is key with aiptasia, they're stubborn.

Re: dealing with aiptasia

Aiptasia-X works well if you're careful. I've used it in my 75-gallon with mixed LPS and SPS, just gotta target the base. Also, check your phosphate levels, high nutrients can fuel outbreaks.

Black bba and cichlids issues

I've posted about this nasty growth on my ocean rocks in the algae forum before, pics are in that thread.

I'm starting to think it's BBA, but I'm stumped as to why it's growing. Maybe my flow's not strong enough.

I need to do a total blackout to see if that clears it, probably 3-5 days. Will my ...

Re: Do i need a second filter

Do i need a second filter

Hi,,,

I've got a 180lt tank with 14 cichlids - Jalo and Saulos.

Running an ex1200 and thinking of adding another one.

Current water readings are PH 8, ammonia 0.25ppm, nitrate's through the roof at 180ppm or higher, and nitrite 0ppm.

Just done a 3/4 water change to bring the nitrate down ...

Re: first water tests for new cichlids

the tank was cycled already as the filter was running up to the day before, was in full use, so i just swapped the fish out for cichlids, added new substrate and ocean rock

first water tests for new cichlids

Three weeks in and I've done my first water test on the Cichlids.

Results are: Nitrates 0 ppm, ammonia 0 ppm, pH around 8, and nitrite 0 ppm - or at least I think so, as the colour wasn't quite right for 0, but it's not near 25 ppm either, so I'm guessing it's low, maybe 10 ppm. Water temp is 27 ...

Re: A fresh beginning with aquatic companions

I've got a Tetratec 1200 running at the moment, seems to do the job pretty well. Is there a way to prevent the ocean rock from going green, or is it just something I'll have to live with?

A fresh beginning with aquatic companions

Hi guys,

After seven years of keeping "normal" fish like neptunes plecs, I've decided to make the switch to Cichlids. I've always loved their colours and the tank set ups, and I feel I'm ready for the challenge.

I currently have sand substrate and was planning on keeping it, but I'm thinking of ...

Re: How many cichlids are in this tank

I've had a lot of discussion since my last post and I also paid a visit to a Mbuna breeder for some expert advice. It turns out my wife was right - length is more important than width, especially for Mbuna since they're mainly bottom dwellers, so height isn't as crucial.

There's no one-size-fits ...
