dealing with aiptasia

Post by fluxx »

I've got aiptasia popping up in my 40-gallon reef tank. Tried peppermint shrimp but they didn't touch it. What's the best way to handle this without nuking my Zoanthids?

Aiptasia-X works well if you're careful. I've used it in my 75-gallon with mixed LPS and SPS, just gotta target the base. Also, check your phosphate levels, high nutrients can fuel outbreaks.

Yo, had the same prob in my nano. Peppermints are hit or miss, mine just chilled. Ended up using a syringe with lemon juice, worked like a charm but gotta be precise.

Agreed on the nutrients. I'd add that reducing light intensity for a few days can slow their spread while you treat.

Has anyone tried filefish? I've read they're hit or miss but some folks swear by them. My tank's too small for one, just curious.

Filefish are sketchy, man. Some eat aiptasia, some ignore it and nibble your corals. If you're gonna try one, quarantine first. My buddy's tank got wrecked by a rogue filefish.

Dude, just zap 'em with a laser. Kidding, but seriously, manual removal plus Aiptasia-X is the way. My tank's clean now, took a few weeks though.

I've heard boiling water in a syringe can work. Never tried it myself, but seems less risky than chemicals.

Thanks for the tips, everyone. Gonna try Aiptasia-X and keep an eye on phosphates. Appreciate the help!

Good call. Let us know how it goes. Consistency is key with aiptasia, they're stubborn.
