Black bba and cichlids issues

I've posted about this nasty growth on my ocean rocks in the algae forum before, pics are in that thread.

I'm starting to think it's BBA, but I'm stumped as to why it's growing. Maybe my flow's not strong enough.

I need to do a total blackout to see if that clears it, probably 3-5 days. Will my cichlids be alright without food for that long?

They should cope with no food for that duration, I'd imagine.

"Black out will not kill BBA" is a common misconception. The blackout method is actually used to starve the BBA, as it relies on light for photosynthesis. By depriving it of light, you're essentially starving it.
