Re: calling the salty side
If you're looking to get one from Maidenhead Aquatics, I think they're on the banned list, or at least, they're not commonly stocked due to potential system risks if one dies. That being said, I've found that if you ask nicely and demonstrate suitable knowledge and a suitable aquarium, they're more ...

True. Also, magnet cleaners. Scraping algae off the glass with a sponge gets old fast.

Honestly, a gravel vacuum. Sounds dumb but I skipped it my first time and regretted it hard when the substrate got nasty. Got a Python one now, way easier than scooping crap out with a cup.

Re: selecting your top marine fish
I'm having a tough time narrowing it down, so here are my top favorites.
First off, I have to mention the Volitans/Radiata lionfish – their unique appearance really draws me in. The Dogface Puffer is another favorite, with a personality that's just as quirky as its looks. I'm also fascinated by ...

Honestly, I gotta say, your tank setup doesn't sound ideal for Malawis. I know loads of people keep them in community tanks, but it's not really fair on the fish, is it?

Re: Hammer coral care and feeding
It looks like it's not opening up all the way, and the polyps seem kinda shrunk. Is that normal or is something off?

I've uploaded the pic - you can see the haze is from an algae bloom I'm dealing with.

Re: Hammer coral care and feeding
I got a single head frag, and to be honest, they all looked the same to me when I bought it. The guy I bought it from had both multi head and single head frags, so I'm guessing he might have fragged some heads from a branching hammer. I'll get some pictures up when I get home, hopefully that'll give ...

Re: Hammer coral care and feeding
I'm still trying to figure out the difference between branching and wall hammers - I really love the look of hammers, though. I mean, I've seen some awesome pictures online and they're definitely one of my favorites. I was thinking of trying a torch, actually - I've heard they're pretty hardy.

Re: Hammer coral care and feeding
Honestly, I thought hammers were pretty low maintenance. If they're actually that finicky, can you recommend a hardier soft coral that still has some movement? I really like the way they sway.
