Herbal meds are a weird vibe, man. My corys are in a 55-gallon, sand substrate, canister filter. I stick to the basics—clean water and good food. No meds unless it's absolutely necessary.

HOBs are legit for most setups. I've got one on my 20 long with a pair of Rams and some Rummy Noses. No probs here. Just keep an eye on the flow rate if you're adding more fish.

I've been saying this for years, and this thread just proves my point. Remove the substrate from a mature tank, and you're almost guaranteed a huge ammonia spike and mini cycle. It doesn't matter what people say, I've seen it happen time and time again in my 20 years ...
