Re: why do discus flare their gills?
Thanks for the tips, everyone. I'll try adjusting the flow and maybe add an air stone. They're eating frozen bloodworms and pellets fine, so I'm not too worried now.

Re: algae vs plants - who wins?
I do not use CO2. My plants are fine. Maybe you need better balance.

why do discus flare their gills?
I've noticed my discus flaring their gills a lot lately. It's not constant, but it happens a few times a day. They're in a 75-gallon tank with sand substrate, driftwood, and some Amazon swords. Water params are good, 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite, 10 nitrate, pH 6.8. Temp is steady at 84°F. Anyone know why ...

Re: algae vs plants - who wins?
My tank has no algae. I use LED light for 5 hours daily. Water changes every week. Plants are growing well.

Re: raising discus fry feeding tricks
I'm new to this, but my fry seem to like crushed flakes. Tank is 20-gallon, temp at 86°F, with a sponge filter. Water changes 30% daily. Should I switch to live food?

Re: preventing stress in discus fish
Never kept Discus but my angels hate sudden movements near the tank. Maybe walk softer around yours? Saw a guy on YouTube who put his tank in a low-traffic spot and his fish stopped hiding. Just a thought.

Re: can torch corals touch hammer corals?
Had a similar scare last month. Moved the Torch higher up the rock, problem gone. My phosphates were creeping up, though. You testing for PO4? My Salifert kit showed 0.03 ppm after I cut back on feeding.

Getting started with aquarium plants
I just got my live plants ordered and I'm wondering what I should do once they arrive. I've got an Anubias Nana on lava rock, Bacopa C, a Morimo moss ball, and a banana plant coming in. I've read that there's a possibility of snails and other unwanted critters, but the place I ordered from seems ...

Re: poret foam
I've had SwissTropical foam in my sump for ages, and I was blown away when I drained the tank and pulled it out. It was filthy, but it still felt like new. Their foam is seriously top-notch – no need to look elsewhere. It's a one-time investment, and it's worth it.
