Sad aquarium news

Post by creekie »

Just found one of my Discus floating upside down this morning. Water params are good, 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite, 5 nitrate. Tank is 75 gallons, temp at 84F, running a Fluval FX6. Any ideas what could've happened?

Sorry to hear that. Could be internal parasites or bacterial infection. Have you noticed any weird behavior lately, like lethargy or loss of appetite? Also, how often do you do water changes?

That's rough, creekie. Discus are so sensitive. I'd check for any recent changes, like new tankmates or food. Even small stuff can mess with them. How long have you had this one?

Yo, that sucks big time. Had a similar thing happen last month. Turned out my heater was sketchy, spiking the temp. You might wanna double-check your equipment, just in case.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Discus are such beautiful fish. Maybe it was just old age? How long did you have it?

Agreed. Parasites are a common culprit. Have you treated with anything like Metroplex or General Cure recently?

Thanks for the replies. Water changes are weekly, about 30%. The Discus was about 2 years old, seemed fine until yesterday. No new tankmates or food changes. I'll check the heater though.

Man, that's a bummer. I'd lean toward parasites too. Maybe try a round of meds just to be safe. What's your feeding routine like?

Dang, hate when this happens. Had a similar scare last week. My bet is on water quality, even if params look good. Discus are picky as heck.

Good point. Equipment failures are sneaky. What brand heater are you using?
