Hornwort vs anubias - which is easier?

Post by kayzer »

I'm setting up a new 20 gallon tank and wanna keep it low maintenance. Heard Hornwort and Anubias are both easy, but which one's actually easier for a beginner? My light's basic, no CO2, and I do weekly water changes.

Hornwort's way less fussy. It grows like crazy in almost any condition, even with low light. Just toss it in and it'll float or anchor. Anubias needs to be tied to something and can melt if the light's too strong.

I've had both in my 10 gallon for months. Hornwort does grow faster, but it sheds a lot of needles, which clogs my filter. Anubias stays tidy and doesn't need much attention once it's settled.

Yeah, but Hornwort can get messy if you don't trim it often. Anubias might grow slower, but it's chill once you glue it to a rock.

Thanks for the input, everyone. Leaning toward Hornwort for now since I don't mind the extra cleanup.

Good call. Just keep an eye on the needles. Maybe add a pre-filter sponge if your filter's getting clogged.

If you go with Anubias later, superglue gel works best for attaching it. Don't bury the rhizome or it'll rot.

Yep, learned that the hard way. Lost two plants before I figured it out.
