best discus tank water conditioner
I've been using Seachem Prime for my Discus tank, but I'm curious if there's something better out there. My tank's 75 gallons, with a canister filter, sand substrate, and a bunch of driftwood. Water params are good, 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite, but I'm always looking to improve. What's everyone else using?

Prime's solid, but I've had great results with Fritz Complete. It's got a bit more going for it in terms of heavy metal removal, and my Discus seem way more active since I switched. Tank's 55 gallons, planted, with a sponge filter. How often are you doing water changes?

Fritz is legit, but don't sleep on Brightwell Aquatics. Their conditioner's got a crazy good buffering system, perfect for keeping pH stable. My 90-gallon's got a sump, and I do 30% changes twice a week. Discus are thriving.Ticgo wrote: ↑Tue Jul 01, 2025 8:31 pm Prime's solid, but I've had great results with Fritz Complete. I'm all about Stability over flashy conditioners. Been using it for years in my 125-gallon, and my Discus breed like crazy. Sand substrate, tons of plants, and a FX6 filter. Water changes every 3 days, 20%. It's not just about the conditioner, it's about consistency.

Agreed. Stability's underrated. I've got a 180-gallon with a sump, and my Discus are bulletproof. But I also dose with a bit of Seachem Safe for extra ammonia control. How's your bio-load?maverick wrote: ↑Wed Jul 02, 2025 12:04 am I'm all about Stability over flashy conditioners. Been using it for years in my 125-gallon, and my Discus breed like crazy. Y'all sleeping on API Tap Water Conditioner. Cheap as heck, and it gets the job done. My 40-gallon's got a HOB filter, and I do 50% changes weekly. Discus are chill, no stress stripes, and they eat like pigs. Sometimes simple's best, ya know?

API's cool, but if you're dealing with hard water, you gotta step it up. I'm using Continuum Aquatics, and it's a game-changer. My 75-gallon's got RO water, and the Discus are showing insane color. Worth the extra bucks.

Thanks for the input, everyone. Gonna try Fritz and see how it goes. Appreciate the advice!

Don't forget about temperature matching when you're doing water changes. I use a mix of Prime and Stress Coat, and my Discus are in a 60-gallon with a UV sterilizer. They're super sensitive to temp swings, so I always double-check.

I'm new to Discus, so this thread's gold. Got a 50-gallon with a internal filter, and I've been using Tetra AquaSafe. Seems okay, but I'll probably switch to Fritz after reading this. How long do you guys let the water sit before adding it?
