keeping a coral beauty with a resident flame angel

Post by flintcore »

I've had my flame angel in the reef tank for about a year now, and he's still pretty young. I've recently fallen for a coflake beauty, and I'm wondering if it's possible to introduce her to the tank. On a side note, I'm planning to get rid of my yellow tang - he's going to get too big for my tank in the future. I'm also rehoming my 2 captive bred common clowns, they're more of a nuisance than anything, they host my coflakes and end up killing them.

What's the tank size, btw. You can mix dwarf angelfish, but a large tank's a must, 75G or more. Best if they're introduced together too. Any less space and trouble's bound to happen if one's already settled in.

My tank's 42 gallons, I've mixed angels before, had a bicolour with my flame angel, but had to get rid of the bicolour, it killed one of my elegance corals. Now I'm thinking of a multibanded angel, in case the coflake beauty and my flame angel don't get along, but is the multibanded angel reef safe?

Mixing dwarf angels with coflakes and your existing flame angel is a gamble, regardless of which dwarf angel you choose to introduce.

I'm gonna take a chance with the coflake beauty, see how it goes.

Keep a close eye on your tank for a few days after introducing the coflake beauty, I've known a few who've mixed them with success. Flames can be right territorial, so watch your existing angel closely. I left mine till last in my tank so the others would be settled in before he arrived, worked out well. When I added a new fish after him, he tried to assert dominance but met his match, fluxx.
