A strange thing happened today

Post by luminia9 »

I just got back from running some errands and found a yellow lab floating belly up in my hap/peacock tank.
When I went to scoop him out, I was shocked - his fins were totally chewed off, his eyes were eaten out, and his guts were gone.
I've noticed he and another male in the tank have been going at it lately, so I'm wondering if that's what happened.
I also have a malawi eye biter in there, and although I know they aren't known to eat eyes in home aquariums, I'm not ruling it out.

Sorry for your loss, it's always tough when something like that happens. In a cichlid tank, it's hard to pinpoint the exact cause, those fish are always on the lookout for their next meal and if they're hungry enough, they'll eat just about anything.

I've had my fair share of losses in the tank, but this one's really got me stumped - it's like he was ravaged or something.
