chiclid tank setup suggestions

Post by SeaLord2 »

I've had this 30 gallon fishtank in the basement for years, just my lonely goldfish swimming around. Now I'm thinking of moving it upstairs and switching to an African cichlid tank. I've heard they're rock dwellers, so I'm curious about setting that up in a home aquarium. What's a great setup for cichlids in a 30g standard tank?

For a 30G, I'd personally suggest going with a Tang setup, like Tanganyikan cichlids - they're pretty amazing. Maybe throw in a few shellies, you know, Lamprologus species, and scatter a bunch of shells around the bottom of the tank. You could also add some julies, Julidochromis species, to fill in the rockwork. Then, to round out the top half of the tank, consider adding a more open-water species - this will really make the aquarium pop.
