Are eSHa treatments safe for shrimp?
Are eSHa treatments safe for shrimp?
I've been dealing with some fin rot in my community tank and was considering eSHa 2000. Problem is, I've got a bunch of Cherry Shrimp in there too. Anyone know if it's safe for them? I've heard mixed things.
Re: Are eSHa treatments safe for shrimp?
Yo, I feel you on the shrimp worry. I used eSHa Exit once and my Neocaridinas were totally fine, but I've heard some folks say their shrimp got sketchy after using the 2000. Maybe cut the dose in half just to be safe?
Re: Are eSHa treatments safe for shrimp?
eSHa 2000 contains formaldehyde and malachite green, both of which can be harmful to invertebrates like shrimp. If you must use it, remove the shrimp to a separate tank temporarily. Alternatively, consider a shrimp-safe treatment like Seachem Paraguard.

That's solid advice. I've had shrimp die from similar meds, so I'd play it safe and quarantine them first.
Re: Are eSHa treatments safe for shrimp?
I've used eSHa 2000 in a tank with Amano Shrimp and didn't lose any, but Cherry Shrimp are more sensitive. If you're gonna try it, monitor them closely for any stress signs like erratic swimming or hiding.
Re: Are eSHa treatments safe for shrimp?
My tank's got a mix of Cherry Shrimp and Cardinals, and I've avoided eSHa products altogether after reading horror stories. Maybe try salt baths for the fin rot instead? Less risky for the shrimp.
Re: Are eSHa treatments safe for shrimp?
I've never used eSHa 2000, but I've had good luck with API Melafix for bacterial issues. It's plant and shrimp safe, though it's not as strong as some other meds.

Thanks for the input, everyone. I think I'll play it safe and move the shrimp to another tank before treating. Appreciate the advice!

If you're moving the shrimp, make sure the quarantine tank has stable parameters and plenty of biofilm for them to graze on. Sudden changes can stress them just as much as meds.
