Silver tip tetra playful behavior

Post by demonix »

My Silver Tip Tetras have been acting super playful lately, darting around the tank like crazy. Is this normal behavior or should I be worried? Tank is a 20 gallon, planted, with a sponge filter. Water params are good, 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite, 10 nitrate. Temp is 78F.

Nah, that's just how they roll. Silver Tips are super active, especially in groups. Mine do the same thing, zooming around like they're on a mission. As long as your water's chill, they're probably just having fun.

I agree with Skillster. My Silver Tips are always on the move, especially during feeding time. They're super social fish, so if they're in a group, they'll play around a lot. Sounds like your setup is solid, so no worries.

Yo, those little dudes are just living their best life. Silver Tips are known for being super active, almost like they're showing off. If they're eating well and not showing signs of stress, like clamped fins or hiding, you're golden. What's your feeding routine like?

Thanks for the reassurance, everyone. I feed them twice a day, a mix of flakes and frozen brine shrimp. They go nuts for the brine shrimp, which is when they're most active.

That sounds perfect. Silver Tips thrive on variety in their diet, and the brine shrimp probably triggers their natural foraging behavior. The darting is likely just them being excited. How many do you have in the tank?

That's a great diet. Mine do the same thing when I drop in frozen food. It's like a mini frenzy, but totally normal. Just keep an eye on their fins to make sure no one's getting nippy.

Silver Tips are just built different, man. They're like the ADHD kids of the fish world, always bouncing off the walls. As long as your water's tight and they're not hurting each other, let 'em do their thing. What's your tank's lighting schedule like?

I run my lights for about 8 hours a day. Too much light can sometimes make them even more hyper, so maybe adjust if they're going nuts all the time.

Yeah, lighting can def affect their energy levels. I keep mine on a 6-hour cycle with a dimmer period in the middle. Seems to keep 'em from going full turbo mode all day. Also, how many plants you got in there? More plants can give 'em more stuff to explore, which might spread out the craziness.
