Betta fin rot issues
Betta fin rot issues
I've been using Melafix stress coat, aquarium salt, and Indkento4 almond leaves to treat them. My fault, I know - I wasn't cleaning their tanks as often as I should've. Now I've got a reminder on my phone for every Wednesday. Any advice would be really helpful, thanks.
Re: Betta fin rot issues
I'd advise you to stop using Melafix right away - the -fix products have aromatic oils that aren't good for labyrinth fish, they can harm their labyrinth organ.
Instead, try doing daily water changes, at least 50% each time, and see if that helps with the fin rot. You can also add some aquarium salt, about 1 tablespoon for every 5 gallons, just make sure it's completely dissolved before adding it to the tank. After the water change, add the right amount of salt for the new water. If the fin rot gets better with this, you can do future water changes without salt and it'll get removed gradually.
Also, sticking to your reminder and doing a 50% water change every week is a great idea.

Thanks for the advice, I'll stop using Melafix and switch to aquarium salt instead. I'll start doing daily 50% water changes and see how that goes. The salt ratio you mentioned, 1 tablespoon per 5 gallons, is that something I should stick to? And yeah, I'll keep the weekly reminder on my phone for the water changes.
