Growing sagittaria on rocks

I'm trying out sagittaria, just got some and I'm planning to put it on rocks. Will they do alright in the water column or do they need to be planted in the substrate.

Got some plants, think they're sagittaria, not entirely sure though

Sagittaria and Vallis both require substrate to grow well, won't thrive on rocks.
