about african chilids

Post by antonix »

I'm thinking of keeping african cichlids in a 48 gallon tank with 2 rope fish and a white lobster, will that work?

Nope, sorry to say, but that lobster's gonna be a nightmare for the cichlids - it'll shred 'em to pieces, just like it would with pretty much any other fish in that tank.

I was just told in Chat that rope fish are actually too large for this tank.

Laurac's problem wouldn't be the cray catching the fish, it's actually the other way around - the cichlids would likely rip the cray to shreds, depending on their size and aggression level. I've seen this firsthand with my own blue cray and cichlids; if I had put her in the tank with them just 30 minutes after introducing her, she would've been gone for sure.

You're already dealing with seveflake fish that'll need an upgrade soon. Focus on giving them the best care before adding new ones to the mix.
