krusty krab with fry

Post by bronzecat »

I figured some breeding was on the horizon, given how aggressive the male was being and rearranging the gravel. Didn't think it'd happen this fast though. I've already got 8 fry from about a month ago in a breeder in the same tank, and they're growing like crazy. Now I've got a bunch more - can't get an exact count since they're so small, but I'm guessing around 20-30 or so. It's pretty cool to see.

Blown away by the number of little ones, 20-30 is a crazy amount of babies, I've got a lot of work ahead of me to keep them all thriving.

Just did another count, and I'm thinking there's gotta be at least 40 in there now. It's getting wild!

Lovely to see. Kribs are a favourite of mine, I've always been keen to keep them. Not suitable for my current tanks, but that's great for you.

Nice to share the excitement. Kribs are indeed fantastic fish, and I'm glad you're enjoying them. I've got them on my wishlist too, but they don't fit my current tank setup. Still, I'm stoked for you, and it's awesome that you've got the breeding going on. I can imagine it's a great experience, even if it was unintentional. Guess sometimes having the right parameters just clicks.

Congrats, lovely fish. I've had Kribs before, great experience... currently into Malawi mbunas, but you never know, Kribs might just make a comeback in another tank.

Thanks. I'm actually thinking of getting another tank just for the Kribs now, I've got a 10gal breeder tank going to separate the pair from the rest and the hostility in my 55gal is getting pretty intense. Looks like they might be at it again too!

Oh they will be, and again and again... I had to siphon out the eggs eventually as I was getting overrun, beautiful fish but a bit overbearing in a community with all their breeding and protecting. A tank of their own would be good, I eventually rehomed all the fry and parents too, now I have a pair of angels.

Congrats on the Kribs. I had a blast with them back in the day, they're definitely a fun species to work with.

I think I'll need another tank just for these Kribs, they're taking over. I've got a 10gal breeder tank set up to separate the pair from the rest, the hostility in my 55gal is getting out of hand. And it looks like they're at it again.

Oh they'll keep breeding, and breeding... I couldn't keep up with mine, had to siphon out the eggs to avoid being overrun. They're beautiful, but a bit much for a community tank with all the spawning and protecting. A tank of their own would be best, I ended up rehoming all the fry and the parents, now I've got a pair of angels.

They're showing spawning behavior again, but no eggs yet. They like to lay them in the house or the fluxeon. My LFS will take them in for credit when they're big enough. I might separate the male and put him in my 75gal once it's up and running. I've also thought about separating the tank from the others like I did before.

Yeah, Kribs are fun, but the male gets more aggressive each time they spawn. It's a bit nerve-wracking.
