I've got a hydnophora that's just stuck in neutral - no growth in over a year.
My other SPS are thriving, no issues with any of them. I've got a mostly SPS tank and everything else is good to go.
So what's the deal with these corals? I'm feeding Reef Chili every few days, my parameters are spot on. I've got Reefbreeder LEDs, which should be more than enough.
Do they prefer low flow? I'm running a Jebao WP40, which cranks out a lot of flow.
Stunted hydnophora growth
Re: Stunted hydnophora growth
Mine started off great, but the past few months it's been struggling with STN and honestly, it looks terrible.

Re: Stunted hydnophora growth
My hydnophora did grow a bit when I was using Aquatic Life T5s and had zero flow, but that was before I upgraded everything. Now it's just stalled. It looks healthy, good polyp extension and all, just not getting any bigger.
Re: Stunted hydnophora growth
I had a hydnophora that initially did well, but once I added more sps corals, it started to decline. Mine was actually one of the first corals I added to the tank. I'm thinking maybe the other corals are giving it a hard time, chemical warfare style. Adding more carbon might help, worth a shot.

I don't run carbon, no space for a reactor. Would have to be an in-water kind for me to consider it.
Re: Stunted hydnophora growth
I feel you on the growth issue, but honestly, be grateful it's not taking off like mine did - I had a nasty experience with an encrusting hydnophora that ended up overpowering some of my nicer corals before I finally got rid of it.
Re: Stunted hydnophora growth
You can run carbon passively in a filter bag in your sump, no reactor needed.
