Best places to frag a hammer coral

Post by knight0r »

I picked up this V-shaped hammer fragment recently. As you can see, it's a V shape. I'm looking to split it into two separate heads. Where's the best spot to make the cut?

If you're dead set on splitting it, I'd suggest cutting at the base of the right-hand stalk, straight across the axis. That's essentially right at the joint where the two parts meet.

I'm on board with that, cutting right in the 'v' makes sense. Trimming the bottom to make it flat is a good call too, it'll definitely make it easier to mount onto rockwork or frag plugs.

I'd hold off for a couple months, let it get some more growth and settle into its new environment. It looks like it might be a recent cut, and since you just got it, it's probably still recovering from the fragging process. Give it some time to heal and establish itself before making any cuts.

Appreciate the advice. I was gonna wait anyway, see how it grows after a couple of weeks.
