importing betta from thailand

Post by Emeraldsea »

I recently visited a friend who's been importing bettas from Thailand for about two years now. He initially sold them to hobbyists and local fish stores, but he's now trying to expand his business as a wholesaler.

I stopped by his new place the Tuesday before a fresh shipment of bettas arrived, which he had purchased during his solo trip to Thailand three weeks prior. He also picked up some other labyrinth fish while he was there. That particular weekend in July, he hosted an open house, and as one of the moderators of his Facebook group, I joined some of the other moderators for a visit.

Although I've been out of the betta-keeping scene for a while, these fish still fascinate me to this day. I took some photos of his setup, which I'd like to share with you all.

He's got a sizable collection of bettas, and it's clear why he needed to move out of his home and into a separate space. Luckily, he found a place close to his home, making it convenient for him to manage.

And some more photos of the place, and his fish.

I'm completely blown away by those pictures. The sheer scale of it all is just incredible. I can only imagine the thrill of witnessing that in person - it must be truly exhilarating.

It was indeed a haven for any serious betta enthusiast, I must say. We ended up overstaying our planned visit, simply because there was so much to take in. The sheer variety of bettas on display was astounding, with many of them being of exceptionally high grade. It's worth noting that these aren't your run-of-the-mill, affordable bettas – we're talking about fish that command a substantial price tag. If you're genuinely passionate about bettas, whether it's the wild or fancy types, then this is something you absolutely need to experience for yourself.

I've got a concern with the way he's marking those Betta cups - not exactly my cup of tea. Thing is, Betta cups aren't the best anyway, but the lower ones, they don't have easy access to air, you know?

I completely agree with you on this. If they're showcasing such an impressive collection of bettas, they should definitely be kept in a more spacious environment, at least 0.5 gallons of water per fish would be a good starting point.

I'd love to know more about his business, does he have a website or any other online presence outside of Facebook?
