Are kribensis cichlids able to mate?
Are kribensis cichlids able to mate?
i posted about this before but seems like nobody's paying attention now. my girl's definitely trying to mate, no question, but my boy's just not cooperating - every time she makes a move, he freaks out, shakes and swims off, kinda like he's all aflutter or something. does anyone know what's going on here?
Re: Are kribensis cichlids able to mate?
This sounds like courting behaviour to me. There isn't much aggression between them, is there? Just because the female is keen, it doesn't necessarily mean the male will be. Those body shakes and vibrations are forms of communication, but unfortunately, we can't decipher the kribensis language. How much time are they spending in caves, or hiding places?
Re: Are kribensis cichlids able to mate?
no, there's not much aggression between them. currently they're both in the cave, but usually it's just the male that goes in there, like when something spooks him or something.
Re: Are kribensis cichlids able to mate?
now they're both out and he's following her around, i guess that's a good sign right?
Re: Are kribensis cichlids able to mate?
Krib pairs can take a while to get it right, had pairs that took 2 or 3 attempts before eggs hatched, so don't lose hope just yet, good luck with them.

do you reckon they'll ever click, or is this just gonna be a drawn out courtship thing?
