Is the filter too strong

Post by southern »

I'm really worried about my new Betta. I just got him today and put him in my 9L tank - it's specifically for Betta Fish, so I thought it'd be fine. The filter's been a problem, it's stopping him from swimming and he's just stuck in one corner. I turned it off, but he's still not moving. I had a Betta before and he died after just 5 days, so I'm freaking out. I'm new to all this, please can someone help me?

Honestly, a 9L tank is way too small for a betta. I'd highly recommend moving him to a 5-gallon or even bigger tank. The strong flow in your current tank could be because it's just too tiny.

I'm curious, what's the filter type you're using in your 9L tank. If it's a power filter, you might consider switching to a sponge filter, which is air-driven and has a much gentler flow. This could be a good solution given the small tank size and single fish.
