Help with identifying my betta's color and pattern

Post by luminia »

Hi everyone,

I stopped by the LFS for some plants and amano shrimp, but ended up coming home with a beautiful betta named Queenie instead. My 5.5 gallon tank was empty for the first time in almost two years after losing my previous fish, so it's great to have some life in there again.

I'm curious, can anyone tell me what type of tail Queenie has, and what her color/pattern is? The LFS said she's a fluxeon, but I'm not so sure - she's got those gorgeous thick white scales and a "skunk stripe". From what I've read, fluxeons don't seem to be blue or have light bodies, so I'm thinking maybe she's more of a marble or grizzle? I've only had her for a day, so I haven't seen any color changes yet.

Thanks!

I've got an update on Queenie - her colors have really popped over the last two weeks, and I think it's due to the improved tank conditions, possibly the marble gene too. The new driftwood I added is leaching tannins, giving the tank a warmer hue.

I'd love to hear your thoughts on her tail type - is she a fluxeon scale? To me, she looks like a delta or super delta, but I'm no expert on identifying tail types.

She's absolutely stunning, I think the new tank conditions are really bringing out her colors.

Thanks, I feel super lucky to have found her - her personality is just as awesome as her looks. She's got a bit of an attitude, always acting like I've forgotten to feed her, which I find adorable.

Queenie is absolutely stunning. The tail shape does seem to resemble a comb tail to me, but I'm not entirely sure about her color pattern - it's quite unique.

Thanks for the kind words. Comb tail does seem to fit her tail shape, and I agree with you on that. Her pronounced rays caught my attention, but they don't quite seem as long as crowntail rays. I'm loving the continued marbling effect - her eyes are almost completely dark now, adding to her mystique. The iridescence is really something special, shifting from royal blue to turquoise depending on the light.
