YELLOW TANG
Zebrasoma Flavescens
The Yellow Tang's a top 10 marine fish, thanks to its bright yellow body and unique shape. Native to the Indio-pacific Ocean, this tang's a great choice for marine keepers due to its hardiness. It needs plenty of space to swim, just like in its natural environment where it covers great distances daily.
Common names for this fish are Yellow Tang, Yellow Surgeon Fish, and Yellow Salfin Tang.
You'll need a minimum tank size of 75-100 gallons.
This tang's semi-aggressive and very territorial - it wants to be the top dog in your aquarium. It'll fight to establish its place, especially with other tangs.
In the wild, it eats algae, so its diet should include algae-based foods like nori seaweed or marine flakes. It'll also take meaty foods, which should be offered regularly.
Temperature-wise, stick to the normal range of 73-80 degrees.
Reef Safe? Yes, completely.
A fully grown Yellow Tang can reach 6 inches, but some have grown up to 8 inches. Males tend to grow bigger than females.
This fish is very hardy if given plenty of space to swim and fed properly. However, it's prone to marine ich, especially when stressed, so ideal conditions are a must.
Type of species is Tang.
Don't expect to breed these in a marine aquarium - it's unlikely.
