betta's fading body colour

Post by flumon »

I've been conditioning my male betta for 2 months now, 3 meals a day, small portions. I tried breeding him, but he just wouldn't make a bubble nest. So I kept at it, conditioning him some more, thinking maybe he just needs a bit more time. But every time I put the female near him, all he does is flare - no bubble nest. It's weird, 'cause last time he did make a nest and the fry turned out great, nice colors and all. But now, he's gotten bulkier, less active, and his colors are fading. What's going on with him, and how can I fix this?

To better understand what's going on with your betta, could you please share some details about your tank setup and its parameters?

A short video clip or a clear photo of the fish would also be helpful in assessing the situation.

Wishing you the best of luck in getting your betta back to its normal self.

I agree with guppylover3x, a photo and video would be really helpful. It sounds like your betta might be stressed out. I think you might be overfeeding him, 1-2 pellets 1-2 times a day is plenty, it's more in line with their natural needs. Stress is probably the main issue here. I'd recommend doing some water changes and using an anti-stress medication to help calm him down. Adding some anti-bacterial meds wouldn't hurt either, just to be safe.
