mixing: what's the best approach?
Would a Bicolour or Red Spot Flymo Blenny work in my 70l tank with a Royal Gramma and a pair of Tangerine Clownfish? The Bicolour blenny seems small enough, but I'm worried the Gramma might see it as a rival due to their similar appearance. Not too familiar with the Red Spot Flymo's - they look awesome, but they're not in my fish books, even under other names.

Red Spot Flymo Blenny, Istiblennius chrysospilos, a really nice-looking fish. I've managed to find some info on them - they're reef compatible, so that's a plus. Care level is intermediate, which I'm okay with. They're peaceful, which is what I'm after. Minimum tank size is 30 gallons, which is a bit more than I have. Mature size is around 5 inches, and they're herbivores, which fits in with my tank's inhabitants. Range is Indo-Pacific, Africa, but I think the main concern for me is the size - might be a bit too big for my tank.

Yer, 5" does seem a mite large for my tank, lovely looking fish though, thanks for the info brixo.
Anyone got any thoughts on a Bicolour Blenny mixing with a Royal Gramma, had a few concerns about the Gramma getting a bit testy?

Re: mixing: what's the best approach?
Still nobody's got any thoughts on mixing the Bicolour Blenny with a Royal Gramma then?
Re: mixing: what's the best approach?
From what I've read, it's possibly not the best idea to mix them due to Royal Grammas not getting on with their own kind or similar-looking fish. I think it might not be the right thing to do, considering they can be a bit territorial with their own species, let alone similar ones.Falcon9 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 15, 2025 1:07 am Would a Bicolour or Red Spot Flymo Blenny work in my 70l tank with a Royal Gramma and a pair of Tangerine Clownfish? Glad someone chimed in route4, my gut was telling me it might not be the best mix, but I wanted a bit more reassurance. Cheers for the info, much appreciated.
Re: mixing: what's the best approach?
I concur with the view that combining similar hues and body types in a marine setup is a recipe for trouble. It's a mix that often ends in disaster, even if the species are different. A similar example that comes to mind is pairing a yellow tang with a foxface - it's just not a good idea.
