Goniopora and flower pot coral enthusiasts, share your experiences

Post by deep_wave »

Goniopora is a favorite of mine, I love how pretty they look with their polyps extended. The movement of the extended polyps is really something, it's mesmerizing to watch.

I've got a few gonioporas, and I think the ORA red one is the hardiest type.

Here's a video of mine: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EHfok7SOdR0

If you've got some, I'd love to see them.

Mine's still in its infancy, a tiny frag, can't wait to see it grow into a stunning display like yours.

I've had a few Goniopora pieces scattered around in the past, but with all the new colors popping up in the hobby, I've gotten pretty into them lately. This LPS is really growing on me. I've started feeding mine regularly and it's been cool to see them go from retracting at first to now expanding and taking food more easily. Here's a pic of one of mine.

Had posted on another thread, will post my pieces here too. I had some pieces here and there in the past, but have gotten hooked on this coral due to more availability of colors in the hobby recently. I really like this lps. I've been feeding mine and they kind of went from retracting initially to the food to expanding now and accepting feeding much more. Here is a pic.

I've been checking out your collection, deep_wave - it's really something. What do you feed your goniopora? I've been using oyster feast, but I just ordered some Reef-Roids and I'm going to give that a shot next week.

I use TLF's "Gonipower" for mine, also tried Reefroids - essentially the same thing, zooplankton crustaceans mix. Feeding at least once a week, I've noticed some folks don't bother, but the data suggests neglecting to feed will lead to energy loss and eventually, they'll fade away. Honestly, I'm not a fan of feeding corals, but the ones I do feed show better growth and color compared to those just getting light. Oyster feast seems like a solid choice, very nutritious. Just be mindful of the dosage, too much can harm water quality...

Impressive LPS collection reefcowboy, and I love the placement too, really well done. I recently stumbled upon a gorgeous dark pink goni with yellow centers at a local fish store in Dalflintix9 - still kicking myself for not finding a way to bring it home.

Thanks. Just got two new goniopora pieces and rearranged some corals so all my gonis are on the same rock shelf. The light and flow are perfect for them there. Got a neon green and a white with yellow centers. Will post pics when I can.

Mcfa2403, that piece you probably saw is the "red daisy". Saw one yesterday, but my tank is too full, no room for it. They're usually pricey, was the one you saw a frag or a larger colony?

Just added a few more to the collection. Here's the updated pic. The new additions are on the far left - a super bright neon green, a white with yellow centers, and I've also got an Australian orange, purple, green with pink, hot pink, red, and light pink.
