Identifying a pelvicachromis species

Post by arkonix »

Just picked up this beautiful male from Sea Level in MN and I'm stumped on the species... I'm thinking Pelvicachromis, but I'd love some confirmation.

The price point of your new fish might give us a clue about its species. If he was on the cheaper side, it's likely a common Pelvicachromis pulcher. On the other hand, if you paid a pretty penny, it could be one of the subocellatus subspecies.

Also, I've noticed that your fish seems a bit stressed, and your tank could use some cleaning.

I agree with coltin, that's a male Pelvicachromis Pulcher for sure. He does look stressed from the move, which isn't surprising - I've found kribs can be pretty sensitive to changes in their environment. My own experience with them is that they take a little time to settle in, usually a couple of days.

How's he doing now? Got any updates or new pictures to share?
