about demasoni cichlid

Post by tonyako »

Hey everyone,

I'm currently doing work experience at my college's Animal Centre, and I have to say, I really enjoy taking care of the fish there. Today, I was cleaning the tank with the Demasoni's - I think that's what they are, anyway - and after I'd finished, I noticed a huge batch of fry, around 40 of them, being protected by two parents. One parent was noticeably bigger than the other, so I'm not sure if that's a sex or age thing.

The tank's pretty big, I'd estimate around 40 gallons, and it's home to 12-14 of these Chichlids. Is that enough space for all the adults and the fry, though? I'm not really sure.

I'm a bit stumped, to be honest, as I hadn't noticed the fry before. Do they need any special care or anything?

I'll try and get a picture of them tomorrow.

I hope the fry are doing alright and you managed to get the information you needed about them. It's reassuring to think that the animal center would have some knowledge on these fish, considering their popularity when they first hit the market. I recall people going crazy for them back in the day. If I'm not mistaken, it's crucial to limit animal protein in their diet, as excessive amounts can be detrimental, especially to the fry. It's essential to have a good understanding of their needs to provide the proper care and environment.
