Is this trumpet coral healthy?

Post by Kryptic »

I just introduced it to the tank, roughly 24 hours ago. The polyp extension is nonexistent so far, but the mouth is visible on all three heads most of the time. The red part on top of each head feels really rigid, almost skeletal - I'm not sure if that's normal. My torch and zoas seem fine, but this one's got me a bit worried.

I've had mine in the tank for a bit longer, and I've noticed something similar with the red parts on top of the heads - they can be pretty hard. I'm no expert, but I think it's normal. I've seen it on some of my other corals too, and they're all doing fine. It's possible the coral's just stressed from the move, which would explain the lack of polyp extension. Have you checked the water flow around it? That might be affecting it.

Appears to be alright, I'd say. For polyp extension, keep an eye out for those short feeder tentacles around the oral disk - they tend to emerge more at night, but you might catch them reacting to food during the day as well.

Thanks for the info, I appreciate it. I haven't seen any feeder tentacles yet, but I have noticed it reacts to food. When I feed the other fish and inverts, it opens its mouths and can grab the pellets I've been spot feeding to it.
