I had this established tropical tank, but to be honest, it got a bit dull with the neptunes and mollies. I mean, they're great and all, but I wanted something more exciting, you know? So, I switched to brackish water and got these two awesome figure 8 puffers and some bumblebee gobies. Now, I'm thinking of going back to tropical, but this time with cichlids.
My question is, how do I make the switch? Do I just drain the salty water and start fresh, or do I do it gradually, slowly diluting the salt until it's all gone?
Also, I've got a small 65L tank, and I'm looking for some colourful fish to catch the kids' eyes. My girlfriend's sister's daughter and my nephew are both really into fish, and I want to get something that'll keep them entertained.
I went to my local fish shop, but they weren't much help. They said I couldn't get anything decent because the tank's too small. They mentioned oscars and discus, but then said they'd get too big. It was like they were trying to put me off the idea of changing back to tropical and just sticking with mollies and neptunes again.
They did have this one oscar in stock, and it was about 80mm long. They said if I got something like that, I'd have to take it back to them in a few months because it would outgrow the tank. I'm looking for something that'll stay small and be a great addition to my tank.
