I've had Gonioporas that visibly eat the food I give them, but my Alveopora just doesn't seem to react.
Sometimes the polyps will retract, but I'm not sure if that's actually them feeding or just a reaction to the food touching them.
I've never actually seen my Alveopora eat anything - it's like they're just not interested.
Feeding alveopora corals
Re: Feeding alveopora corals
I've tried a few different types of food with my Alveopora, but I'm starting to think it's just super picky. I've seen my other corals go crazy for reef roids though - have you had any luck with other types of food, or is it just reef roids that work for you?
Re: Feeding alveopora corals
I've tried feeding them reef roids, rotifers, fauna marin seafan food, fauna marin zoa and ric food, and even fauna marin lps grow and color that I grind up with a mortar and pestle, plus calanus powder. No real feeding response from my Alveopora, though.
Re: Feeding alveopora corals
I've been thinking, it's possible Alveoporas might be feeding on tiny stuff like pico plankton and bacteria.
I came across this link that talks about it: http://www.coralscience.org/main/videos ... pora-gigas
Apparently, when corals take in plankton, it's usually not something you can see with your eyes. But tiny particles like bacteria and small protozoa (2 - 20 μm) might be taken in by the cilia and flagella on and inside the polyps.
