My kribensis pair update
My kribensis pair update
I'm thrilled to finally have some good news to share - after months of searching, I've found a young pair of Kribensis. I've been hitting every local fish store for what feels like an eternity, but it was eBay that eventually came through for me. I'm beyond excited, as these fish are right up there with my GBRs as my absolute favorites. The way they care for their young is just amazing, and I'm really looking forward to my first spawn.
Re: My kribensis pair update
That's awesome, my pair's still killing it with parenting duties, got around 40 or so fry swimming around, now I'm just trying to figure out what the heck I'm gonna do with 'em all lol.
Re: My kribensis pair update
You can always sell them on Aquabid, it's a great way to get some extra cash for other fish and supplies. It won't make you rich, but every little bit helps, lol.

I'm so stoked for you fin_tank. 40 or so fry is amazing! Your pair sounds like model parents, I'm a bit jealous lol. Aquabid is a great idea for selling them, I've done it before and it's a great way to get some extra cash for more fish and supplies.

Love the Kribensis. What did you end up paying for them on eBay?
Re: My kribensis pair update
They were a steal at $15 for the pair, plus another $15 for shipping. These days, they're pretty affordable, but I had a tough time finding them locally. And I think I just hit the jackpot - I'm pretty sure they spawned last night. They've been rearranging the tank, piling up sand around the driftwood, and the female keeps darting in and out of the little nooks. This morning, she looked noticeably thinner, which is a good sign. Fingers crossed these young ones will be better parents than my Rams, who've been eating their eggs.
Re: My kribensis pair update
Just had my first peek at the babies. Super protective mom finally let them out for a little bit. I was totally surprised at how many wigglers I saw - pretty big batch for her first spawn. Daddy and mommy are being awesome parents!!! They only let them out for a little bit, then got sick of me peeping and sucked them all back into the safe nook of the driftwood. Can't wait to see them swimming around and get a final head count.
Re: My kribensis pair update
I've finally managed to snap a photo of my Kribensis fry. They're growing like crazy, and it's hilarious to watch them try to swim around. The size difference between them and my GBR fry is just amazing.
What really gets me, though, is how naturally they're taking to parenting. This is her first spawn, and she and dad are total pros already. I've had my GBRs spawn three times now, and mom still can't resist the urge to snack on them. My Kribs are a whole different story - they're incredibly protective and attentive parents, and it's an absolute joy to watch them.

Aww lovely. That's all in the past for me now, the joys of breeding Kribensis. Mine just spawned again, and I was planning to siphon out the eggs since I'm out of space, but the little ones took care of them for me - they ate the whole batch. The parents were left watching, helpless to stop them. I guess it's extra protein for the young ones, right?

Aww, lovely. I'm a bit nostalgic now, lol. My Kribs spawned again recently, and I was planning to siphon the eggs out since I'm out of space, but the youngsters beat me to it - they ate them all. The parents were helpless, just watching. Guess it's extra protein for the growing ones, right?
