Which species of pseudomugil is best for a home aquarium

Post by rutz »

I'm trying to ID this female pseudomugil - I'm fairly certain it's a spotted blue eye, specifically Gertrudae. I picked her up a while back, the shop had her labeled as a female guppy, haha, didn't take long to figure out that wasn't the case. After months of searching, they finally got some in stock so I added a few more spotted blue eyes to the tank.

The spots on the fins suggest a female Pseudomugil gertrudae. Definitely falls within the P. gertrudae group, likely a relative of paskai.

Can rule out signifer, tennellus, cyanodorsalis, furcatus, and connieae groups.

Check this site for reference, though it's mostly male pics:

Thanks for the confirmation. I've got Gertrudae and paskai, so either way, my female should thrive. I was stoked when I found the tank of Gertrudae at my local shop, Shark Reef in Tucson, AZ.

Initially, I was a bit miffed that I'd bought a 'guppy' that wasn't, but she's become one of my favorites despite being relatively simple. I'm looking forward to seeing the males, they should be something else.

I've gotta say, the males might be small, but they pack a punch when it comes to colour and markings - you just gotta take a closer look.
