Reviving a hammer coral colony
I'm curious, what are the odds this hammer will magically revive itself. It's opening up a tad more each day, which is kinda weird.
Re: Reviving a hammer coral colony
I've got one that's currently half open and it's on the mend, just keep at it and it'll likely come back to life, just like mine did.

Chances are good if there's flesh and proper care.

as long as the mouth is intact and you're giving it proper care, it should be fine, just gonna take a lot of time and patience.

Update on our hammer that's fighting back - still seeing progress.

That's awesome, really glad to see it's recovering nicely. What was your care process like, anything specific you did that you think helped it come back? I'm looking to get a hammer soon and would love some tips on how to give it the best chance, thanks.

Re: Reviving a hammer coral colony
I attribute its recovery to when I began using the BRS 2 part system - getting my Alk, Mag, and Cal in check made a huge difference. Daily monitoring also played a crucial role, as I learned its lighting and flow preferences. Initially, it only emerged in the darkest areas, so I placed it in a cave for a few months. As it grew, I gradually introduced it to brighter areas and stronger flow. Now, it thrives in the same conditions as my other hammers and frogspawn, and its growth rate has increased significantly.

IME with euphyllia corals, trial and error positioning is key - once you find that sweet spot, make sure to glue them down good. I've lost count of how many perfect growth spots I've lost due to a fish or invert knocking them over, and it's a real challenge to get them back in the right position. I recall one time I lost a frag of my hammer to a random tank inhabitant - it got knocked onto the bottom and I was too busy to intervene, just making sure to feed the tank, monitor parameters and water levels. By the time I got back to it a week later, the frag was gone.
