I'm dealing with a potential zoa pox issue and I'm considering using Furan-2. The thing is, I bought it in powder form, not those convenient packets. The package instructions say one teaspoon per 30 gallons, but I don't want to treat the entire tank.
I'm thinking of making a dip instead. I need around 4 cups of it. Now, I have those small spoons from the Salifert test kits, but I'm not sure how much they hold or how much Furan-2 I should use.
Converting 1 tsp per 30 gallons to 4 cups
Re: Converting 1 tsp per 30 gallons to 4 cups
I think I can help you figure out the measurement. Since you want to make a dip with about 4 cups of water, let's use the formula C1V1 = C2V2.
You're aiming for a concentration of 1 tsp per 30 gallons, but you only need 4 cups. To calculate this, you'd need to find out how much Furan-2 is in 1 tsp, and then scale it down.
From what I found, 1 tsp is roughly equal to 40uL of Furan-2 in liquid form. Since you have the powder, you can't directly measure it in uL, but you can estimate it. A pinch of the powder should be enough, as it's quite potent.

I ended up using 15 of those small red scoops from the salifert kit. The Furan-2 didn't mix in too well, it just kinda floated on top. The water turned a bit green after I added it.FableFox wrote: ↑Tue Dec 10, 2024 3:05 am I think I can help you figure out the measurement. 15 scoops in 4 cups seems excessive, especially since the package says one tsp per 30 gallons. I'm a bit concerned about the concentration now.
