best food options for betta fish
best food options for betta fish
I recently got a new fin tank and I gotta say, I wasn't too thrilled with my fish choice at first. When they're in those little cups, it's hard to get a good look, and I didn't realize mine had some major issues - it had trouble swimming and just floated at the top. It was also super thin, which didn't help. The first few days, it barely moved and I thought for sure it was a goner. But after two weeks, its swimming's back to normal and it's eating okay, even put on a bit of weight. Still, it's pretty lethargic. Anyone know of some good fish food that can help it gain weight fast?

I've had success with New Life Spectrum Betta Food, but you'll probably need to order it online. Omega One micro pellets are another good option. Variety is key, so mix it up for your betta. Frozen blood worms once a week are great for adding some extra weight. If your fish is struggling to stay afloat, it might be swim bladder issues or constipation. Try feeding a blanched, peeled pea and fasting for a couple of days to help clear things out. Overfeeding can cause constipation, so stick to twice daily, just a few pellets at a time. I'd avoid flakes altogether, as they can cause bloating.

I'm a fan of giving my betta a live treat when I can, depending on the season. A Mayfly or Mosquito is a great option - just be sure to remove the wings first.

Thanks for the advice, I was just wondering about other options since I already feed him Omega micro pellets and mosquito larvae, but it's that time of year and they're hard to come by now.

Fluval Bug Bites are a great option, high in protein, might be just what your betta needs to gain some weight.shellby wrote: ↑Tue Dec 03, 2024 2:03 pm I recently got a new fin tank and I gotta say, I wasn't too thrilled with my fish choice at first. I've got these dried worms but my betta's not having them, won't touch 'em. I found these bugs in a cup, Fluval Bug Bites or something, would they be okay for my betta and my corys too?
Re: best food options for betta fish
Are they dried, and what brand are you looking at? I don't want to comment on a product I'm not familiar with. Check the label, does it say how much protein is in them? I've had good luck with Fluval Bug Bites, they're high in protein. Can you order them online?
Re: best food options for betta fish
Another great option for my betta is Northfin's Betta bits - they've got some fantastic ingredients. I also give him freeze-dried bloodworms a couple of times a week, he absolutely loves them.
Re: best food options for betta fish
I'm also a fan of Northfin betta food. My betta gets a mix of live or frozen treats, usually bloodworms, daphnia, or brine shrimps - once a week, it seems to work well for him.
