Frogspawn coral bailout method

Post by BankoLite »

I've had success with this type (check my sig line) - not as explosive as hammer, but still thrilled to see it divide.

It does have a tendency to bail, though. That being said, if you can stabilize these bailouts and maintain suitable tank parameters, you can actually encourage skeletal regrowth.

Here's an example - a bit twisted, but this was a popped head that's now showing promising skeletal growth. To achieve this, keep the head in a shallow dish (an old gflintix9s lid works well) to prevent it from blowing away, provide ample light, and you'll see it grow at a rate comparable to a healthy frog: it'll divide, start with a calcareous bump at the division point, and just keep going.

While it's often been dismissed as a myth in hobbyist circles, I can attest that this is the reality: frog may be more prone to bailing than hammer or torch, in my experience, but it's indeed an option it has when faced with unfavorable conditions. It essentially multiplies its chances by creating multiple opportunities that are carried by currents and governed by chance - one of which might just land in a better spot. Meanwhile, the original colony just sits tight, hoping for an improvement.

Are you saying the polyp just releases its grip?
