My plants are really struggling.
I've got a tropical tank with good water parameters, but the one near the filter is looking pretty rough - eaten away and brown. The tank's in the lounge, so it gets some indirect light, and we've got the lights on for 4-6 hours a day.
A few of the plants have already started browning, and some others are just starting to go that way. There's this one big, tall plant that's turning white, which is really weird.
I've been adding Seachem Flourish once a week, but it doesn't seem to be doing much good.
Why are my houseplants struggling to survive?
Re: Why are my houseplants struggling to survive?
I've noticed the water seems a bit hazy, which reminded me of that other thread where fish were dying and salt was mentioned. Speaking of which, you mentioned the water parameters are good, but could you please provide the actual numbers for GH, temperature, and are you adding salt to the tank? It'd be helpful to know the specifics.
Also, what's the light data like? I'm curious to know more about the lighting setup you have.
Looking at the situation, I don't see anything drastically wrong, but it's worth noting that you have a mix of low-light plants like Java Fern and high-light plants like that stem plant, which isn't doing too great - probably due to insufficient light.

My last water test results are in - GH is 60, KH is between 0-40, pH is 7, nitrite is 0, and nitrate is 0-20. I'm waiting for my API master kit to arrive, so I can get more accurate readings, as I'm currently relying on water strips.boomer wrote: ↑Tue Nov 19, 2024 5:02 am I've noticed the water seems a bit hazy, which reminded me of that other thread where fish were dying and salt was mentioned. Since adding salt - about 4 heaped tablespoons for my 180l tank - I've done a 60-70% water change without adding any more salt. I'm thinking the mollies nibbling on the plants isn't helping, especially the stem plant, which I believe is the main cause of its decline.
Re: Why are my houseplants struggling to survive?
GH looks good. Mollies can be a problem for delicate plants as they tend to eat algae from surfaces, which might be the case here. The stem plants are probably still struggling with the light, though.
