help with live plant problem

Post by Craftsman »

I have a 75-gallon tank with seven different types of live plants, been in there for about a month. A few of them aren't doing great. I've got fluorite as the main substrate, topped with a layer of sand. I've been using Flourish tabs in the sub, following the instructions to the letter. My lighting setup is an LED light I picked up on eBay - it's specifically for live plants, but I'm not sure of the exact name. It's on for 11 hours a day. I'm wondering if my lighting is the issue here - the plants were doing fine at first, but now they're starting to turn brown and yellow.

From what you've described, it seems the plants are struggling to adapt to their new environment. The terrestrial leaves dying off is a common issue when transitioning from out-of-water growth to an aquarium setting.

To address the nutrient deficiency, I'd recommend using a liquid, iron-based fertiliser specifically designed for aquarium plants. It's essential to maintain an iron level of around 1ppm (1mg/L) for optimal growth. I've personally found success with Sera Florena, but there are other reliable brands available.
